General Playthrough

When playing against ap mids, which is how it goes most of the time, start defensively with boots of swiftness and 4x hp pots if they are ranged. against melee ap mids such as katarina or kassadin, you want to be offensive as hell. Later on mid game, a must have setup is the brutalizer, bilgewater cutlass and mercury treads, building up to what they go into, being The Black Cleaver and Blade of the Ruined King, since Botrk works with death mark as well. Late game, since your main objective is to take out the ad carry as fast as possible, the randuins and maw are key to not being ripped apart while going after him through the enemy team.

Farming and Damage

Most of the time, when choosing Zed, you are either A, trying to counter an Ad mid. or B, being getting countered if you are first or second pick. You want to max your E to hit multiple minions as well as harass your lane opponent at all times. Your living shadows cooldown goes down if you hit an enemy champion with a mimicked shadow slash, so its not necessarily worth ranking up until level 18, despite the utility. Even though Razor shuriken is ranged and deals more damage then shadow slash, it is mostly used for hitting the enemy champion and deals less damage per enemy hit, so it is ranked second for farming.

Since you're mid, and melee, the glyphs are needed way earlier, so its better to have flat then scaling. Marks are simple, more damage, more dead enemies. The seals are where it gedts tricky because you can either take armor since the mid champ will most likely be ranged and try to poke at you, or energy regen since zed is very quick to drain all of his energy. And the quints are the same as the marks.

Mastery setup

Most mids are ap again, magic resist on defense. Since you wont buy any crit items, more damage on minions for easier farming is better. plus the turret destruction.
